Hyakunin Issyu is a sort of Japanese traditional card game which is organized by 100 poems.
Although rule to play might be impressive, in my thought, the point is that predecessors compacted many poems.
Color of the flower
Has already faded away,
While in idle thoughts
My life passes vainly by,
As I watch the long rains fall.
(Ono no Komachi)
花の色は うつりにけりな いたづらに
It is for your sake
That I walk the fields in spring,
Gathering green herbs,
While my garment's hanging sleeves
Are speckled with falling snow.
君がため 春の野に出でて 若菜つむ
These small cards let us imagine colors, scenes or emotions, which ancient people got, over about 800 years. Computer always gives us many figures and photos, however ancient people must have pregnant imagination. It might be the richest thing on life.
